The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors unanimously proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month after a presentation by Stephanie Pickenpaugh of Safe Place. Pickenpaugh thanked the board "for proclaiming October as domestic violence awareness month" and urged community support for survivors.
The proclamation read by the chair cited statistical context from Safe Place's work: it states that "last year alone [Safe Place] responded [to] over 1,500 victims fleeing abuse, ensuring that despite high demand, no 1 in immediate danger was turned away." Pickenpaugh stressed that "There is no excuse for domestic violence, and everyone deserves to live free from fear," and invited residents to wear purple ribbons and use local resources to support survivors.
