Sheriff Russell Thornton asked the commission to expand the overnight shift differential beyond correctional officers to cover deputies and dispatchers to help sustain 24/7 coverage.
County Clerk Tammi Cox told the board that a shift differential of "$2.00 per hour between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m." had already been incorporated into the wage study for correctional officers, deputies and dispatch. Commissioners asked whether the necessary salary funds existed in the 2025 budget and were told they did; the motion to approve the differential for dispatch and deputies passed 3-0.
Sheriff Thornton said immediate implementation would help cover overnight staffing challenges but commissioners did not record any additional conditions on timing beyond approving the differential for 2025 budget authority.
