Resident John Lee urges better public listings and registration for city boards and commissions

John Lee, of 30 Beacon Street, told the city council he has organized "casual civics conversations on porches" to encourage neighborhood turnout and flagged gaps in the city's public listings of boards and commissions. He said many positions show missing registration forms and that about 20 boards listed vacancies in the city's online materials.
"I want you to know that we've had 2 of the casual civics conversations on porches," Lee said, describing small neighborhood meetings and urging residents to engage with the council and city boards. He asked whether the listings on the city website are accurate and questioned whether bodies such as the school building committee are properly described and accessible to the public.
Lee said library board members had signed up but that many other board members appeared unaware of annual registration obligations. He told council members he would provide his notes and encouraged neighbors to attend upcoming district meetings, including gatherings he said were planned for the East End. The council thanked Lee and moved to the next speaker.
