Hometown Council rejects $300 hole sponsorship, approves $800 golf foursome for regional fundraiser

Clerk Christina M. Walker presented the request for a hole sponsorship and a foursome. "There was a full discussion on the donation amount and not having any golfers," the record shows. Alderman Grochowski moved to approve a $300 hole sponsorship, but that motion failed with three ayes and six nays after members questioned the value of a sponsorship without participants.
A second motion, moved by Alderman Barnhouse and seconded by Alderman Rivas, asked the council to buy a foursome for $800. The council approved that motion: AYES (6) Aldermen Reynolds, Zak, Kurysz, Barnhouse, Weber and Rivas; NAYS (3) Aldermen Forney, Dolan and Grochowski. The journal entry states, "MOTION DECLARED CARRIED."
Council members who voted against the $300 sponsorship earlier voiced concern about committing limited municipal funds to a sponsorship that might not yield direct participation. The approved $800 purchase leaves the city represented at the event while addressing those concerns about a low-dollar sponsorship that lacked golfers.
The Clerk's office will record the payment in the city accounts and staff will follow up with event organizers about logistics.
