Board advances FY26 budget on first reading; creates public safety sales tax fund

Alderman Autumn Atkins moved to approve the fiscal year 2026 annual operating budget on first reading; the motion received a unanimous roll-call vote and the mayor declared the motion carried.
The board also approved on first reading the creation of a public safety sales tax fund to account for revenues generated by the public safety sales tax. Miss Wagner said collections for the public safety sales tax began Oct. 1 and that the Department of Revenue will reconcile collections later in the year; she reported plans to recommend a public sales tax review committee at the October 21 meeting and named three local residents willing to serve on that committee.
