At its Aug. 4 meeting the Bourne Select Board voted to execute orders of taking for Daniel Webster Lane and Spinnaker Lane, the first takings of this type in decades, and approved estimated orders of assessment for temporary repairs and resurfacing betterments on Terrace, Elgin Street and Eldridge Street extension.
Tim Lyden from the engineering department presented the takings and explained next steps: record the orders, notify abutters and return with finalized betterment amounts after the work is complete. The board voted to approve and execute the takings and then approved the estimated order of assessment for the temporary betterments by roll call. Staff said final costs will be calculated after construction and the final order of betterments will supersede the estimate.
Why it matters: the actions start municipal acceptance and repair work on long-unaccepted roads and set in motion cost-notification processes for abutters; the betterment approvals permit the town to proceed with temporary repairs and record estimated assessment information.
