The Bourne Select Board unanimously approved an application on Aug. 4 to use town roads for a 5K/walk called the "K9 Heroes" event, planned for Oct. 18, 2026. Event presenter James Long described the center and the awards, saying the work will help police and military dogs that retire with injuries or behavioral needs. Representative Steven Exaros and others in the room expressed support. The organizer confirmed the school department had granted approval to use school parking for the event, and shared examples of awards and handlers who would attend.
After brief procedural questions about school notification and logistics, select board member MJ moved to approve the use of town roads; Anne Marie seconded and the board voted 3–0 to approve. Organizers thanked the board and invited community participation.
