Erin (S6) informed the board that the Atlas Theater has applied to the DDA for a capital-improvement grant to replace windows damaged by hail. "The Atlas Theater has requested a capital improvement grant through the DDA, to repair their windows, that got hail damaged in that storm in August," Erin said, adding that the work proposed is a 'like-for-like' replacement and that staff wanted the board to be aware as the DDA processes the request.
Board members noted the importance of design guidelines for downtown and suggested integrating the board's preservation perspective with the DDA's grant review. The board agreed that developing formal design guidelines would give the board a clearer role when facade-improvement grants are considered and would help ensure repairs meet Department of the Interior standards for historic preservation where applicable.
