Holiday Hills board approves temporary agreement with McHenry County Sheriff Office

The Village of Holiday Hills board unanimously approved a temporary intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the McHenry County Sheriff Office (MCSO) at a July 2 special meeting, authorizing MCSO to handle calls at $70 per call through Aug. 31, 2026.
Under the arrangement presented by President J. Giles, non-emergency calls in which MCSO assists will be billable, and all 9-1-1 calls will be billed. The village will receive a monthly invoice and is required to maintain its insurance coverage while MCSO provides response; the IGA does not include local ordinance enforcement. Trustee Michele Brown verified the village’s policy permits the temporary agreement, and Kevin Christensen moved to approve the IGA. "Motion to approve temporary IGA for McHenry County Sheriff Office," Christensen said. Brown seconded the motion and the board voted 6-0 in favor.
The approval followed President Giles’s presentation of the terms, including the end date of Aug. 31, 2026. Trustee Michele Brown confirmed in the meeting record that she checked the village insurance and that the temporary IGA is permissible under the current policy. The motion was recorded as: mover — Kevin Christensen; second — Michele Brown; Ayes — Brian Agrella, Michele Brown, Kevin Christensen, Jake Jensen, Kamil Pawlak, Katie Rudolph; Nays — none.
During the public comment period a resident urged the village to evaluate the expense of maintaining an in-house department versus contracting with an outside entity, a point that aligns with the board’s temporary contracting choice for call response. The board did not take additional action on the long-term structure of the village’s services at this meeting.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 15, 2026.
