Coats town manager previews five-year economic development plan and downtown review

Town Manager Barbara Hollerand updated the Town of Coats Planning Board on Dec. 4 about ongoing economic development planning and a downtown building review.
“Strategies, goals, and actions had been established; such as ensuring Coats be a thriving, connected, future ready community,” Hollerand told the board as she summarized a five‑year planning effort that began in July with a visioning meeting led by consultant Bruce Naegelen. She said work groups have met and drafted vision statements and that the plan will outline strategies and actions for the next five years.
Hollerand also described a separate visit and assessment by CPN (referred to in the minutes as CPNI) that focused on downtown buildings and utilization; that team spent a day and a half in Coats and will produce a synthesized report of findings. The report will be used to inform downtown-focused actions in the broader strategic plan.
The board asked to receive future updates so members can track progress on subdivisions and other local initiatives tied to economic strategy. No formal action was taken on the plan itself at the Dec. 4 meeting; staff indicated further reports would follow.
