Public Works staff told the board the Addison Creek Phase 2 storm sewer project encountered unexpectedly poor soils that required deeper excavation, larger box culverts and extra dewatering work. "The soils on Marion were awful...we're digging down 15 to 20 feet," staff said while summarizing extra work that included replacement of sanitary sewer runs. Staff recommended approving change order number 1 for $189,606.62 to pay the contractor for work performed; the revised contract price reached $2,679,606.62 and the board approved the resolution by roll call.
Staff said negotiations continue on remaining items and that they expect to bring back another, final change order in the next month or two to cover roughly $90,000 to $100,000 in additional anticipated payments.
