Board hears progress on African American context study and airport terminal nomination

Board member Elizabeth Grenier briefed the board on two major heritage-research projects: the African American context study and the airport terminal nomination. For the context study she is examining Sanborn maps from 1883 through the 1890s, and plans to consult city directories, census records and newspaper archives to document properties linked to the African American community.
On the airport terminal nomination, Grenier said Casey Wooster provided a USB drive of architectural research and original blueprints were found in the state archives; she plans to assemble the architectural narrative. She also raised an administrative issue: invoice payments have been delayed because of a grant-entry snafu and a required $15,000 match (airport terminal) and a $3,000 match for the cultural-history grant must be reconciled before payments issue.
"I haven't received payment for the invoices that I've sent so far," Grenier said. Planning staff acknowledged the staffing turnover in grants and said they are resolving the match and payment issues so work can proceed.
