Fortuna Theater Foundation says fundraising continues after CDBG loan was not granted

Rebecca Moore, a board member of the Fortuna Theater Foundation, told the Fortuna City Council during public comment that the group remains committed to reopening the downtown theater after an earlier CDBG loan application was not awarded. “I am on the board for the Fortuna Theater Foundation,” Moore said, and added, “we are continuing to fundraise” including plans for a GoFundMe and outreach to large donors.
Moore said the theater’s owner has indicated a willingness to finance the group’s purchase or renovation but that the foundation must come up with a large down payment. She said the foundation prefers the lower interest rates available through a CDBG loan and asked the council to keep the project in mind when funding becomes available. Moore said the group will provide periodic updates to city officials and that she expects to return to council meetings roughly every month to report progress.
The comment took place during the public‑comment period; there was no immediate council response or action at the Aug. 3 meeting. The city manager later discussed economic‑development work and said staff will bring a separate recommendation on the River Lodge on Aug. 17.
