Paul Harlow, presenting the facilities and maintenance overview, told the board that contractors are mobilizing on the district’s drinking‑water project and that the phone, bell and clock system upgrades are in progress after a recent outage.
Harlow said the county fire marshal raised concerns about the building’s draft connection and ‘‘was leaning towards tentatively asking us to install fire sprinklers into the building, but not require us to replace the entire fire pump system,’’ which he said the architect estimated would cost about $45,000 for the sprinkler connection while a full fire‑pump replacement could reach about $500,000. "There was a rough guess from the architect at 45,000," Harlow said, adding the full pump replacement would be far more significant.
He also described timing and logistics: large equipment should appear around May 20 for the drinking water work, and the district has received clocks and InformaCast equipment and is preparing construction documents for the North Campus parking lot to bid over the summer. On the playground project, Harlow said designers incorporated student leadership input and the site is close to a final design and budget stage.
Board members asked follow‑up questions about schedule and budget contingencies; Harlow said the district will prepare construction documents and flush out cost estimates and any required studies as the county and architects respond. No final cost approvals were recorded.
