Twisp public works and utilities staff reported that nine water services froze in the recent cold snap, affecting properties on Twisp Avenue and Borchard Lane, and that five of those services have been restored. Director Denham said the town is coordinating with the Department of Health on short- and long-term solutions and is pursuing emergency funding to cover repairs.
Denham reported that "there were nine water services that froze on Twisp Ave and Borchard Lane," and added that only one of the restored services is at an occupied residence. He also said Well 4 stopped pumping and is being troubleshooted, and that the wastewater treatment plant contractor has submitted a change order request for a winter shutdown that staff and the town attorney are reviewing. The town does not plan to charge residents who ran their water to prevent freezing, Denham said.
Council members thanked Public Works for restoration efforts during committee reports. The council did not take a formal vote on funding at the Feb. 25 meeting; staff said they will continue to pursue emergency funding and report back when options and cost estimates are available.
