QComp presenters report gains in reading, high teacher participation

The board received a special presentation on the district's QComp program from Laura McKinley, who described the program's four components — leadership roles, professional learning communities (PLCs), evaluation processes and performance pay — and the district's use of cycles, student learning goals and peer review.
"I can share today that we met 5 of 6 schools," McKinley said, adding that approximately 87% of student learning goals were met and peer-review participation approached 100% in their process. She noted middle-school reading showed a 13% increase over the period sampled and that ACT scores had risen almost one point over the decade of program work.
Board members asked whether students are regaining ground since COVID and whether the results could be shared publicly. McKinley and staff said students are rebounding, that staff planned to review what results could be posted on the district website and that the district could work with the Ed Foundation for supplies or supports when appropriate.
