Steuben County approved an expansion of the Venison Coalition contract to $13,891.50 for 2026 after staff presented processing and distribution data.
Lise (speaker 12) noted a jump in poundage delivered in recent seasons — from 1,238 pounds in prior years to 3,969 pounds last season — and requested additional funds to cover processing costs. "$13,891.50," she said when prompted for the exact requested amount. She explained the county subsidizes processing so the finished product can be sent to local food banks.
Supervisors praised the program's value and passed the motion to increase the contract; members asked for confirmation on whether the pounds reported were finished weight and discussed how the program fits into the broader food-security network.
