Sedgwick County approves $183,317 backflow installation at county zoo to meet Wichita code

The Board approved a $183,317.45 bid from South Central Commercial Mechanical to install a backflow preventer on the 12-inch water main that serves the Sedgwick County Zoo and Sedgwick County Park.
Lee Barrier presented the recommendation and noted the 12-inch line — installed about 50 years ago — lacked a backflow preventer, which the City of Wichita requires. "The 12 inch water line that services the Sedgwick County Zoo and Sedgwick County Park was installed approximately 50 years ago without a back flow preventer," Barrier said. Lindsay Peruso, the county CFO, explained the county intends to use a contingency budget transfer to Project Services and seek commission approval next week before creating the purchase order.
Project Services will manage the work and liaise between the zoo and contractors; the board moved and approved the bid by roll call during the meeting.
