Sedgwick County accepts low bid to replace 87th Street South bridge

Lee Barrier, speaking on behalf of Public Works, read the engineer's estimate of $1,468,712.50 and recommended awarding Sedgwick County CIP project B-514 to King Construction. "On behalf of Public Works, recommend to accept the low bid from King Construction Company Incorporated in the amount of $967,314.50," Barrier said during the board meeting.
The bridge, originally constructed in 1981, was described as structurally deficient with posted load restrictions. Board members moved and seconded the recommendation and approved it by roll call. The motion was recorded as passed; the board did not add conditions to the award.
The county will proceed with contracting with King Construction for the replacement under CIP project B-514. The board did not specify a construction start date during the meeting.
