GMAX testing finds Millbrook turf field playable but aging; replacement likely in coming years

Facilities/Director (S4) explained that GMAX measures shock absorbency and industry guidance treats scores under 115 g's as ideal, 116–165 as playable, and 165–199 as an aging concern; anything above 200 is considered not playable. The field's average score was reported as 144.15 g's, which is within the playable range but trending upward as the field ages (installed roughly 2014). S4 said COVID-era reduced use extended the field's life by a couple of years, but the department expects to need major replacement or resurfacing in the next few years and recommended budgeting for the capital improvement when timing aligns with other building projects.
Board members asked about alternatives, including converting to natural turf; S4 said the field's drainage and substructure were designed for synthetic turf and recommended obtaining design and cost estimates from architects when the district is ready to plan a replacement.
