The Galesburg City Council on Aug. 3 adopted an ordinance (final reading) amending Chapter 94 of the city code to establish minimum maintenance standards for private parking lots that serve commercial, industrial, institutional and multifamily properties.
"Staff recommends approval of an ordinance amending chapter 94 of the city code to establish minimum maintenance standards for private parking lots serving commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi family properties," City staff (Hansen) said, outlining enforcement tools including notices of violation, administrative adjudication, contractor completion of corrective work and cost recovery, potentially through liens. Council members emphasized the measure is intended to address larger out-of-town property owners and stated it is not intended to be punitive to small property owners.
The ordinance was approved on final reading by a recorded roll call of 7 yes, 0 no. The ordinance text and administrative-adjudication procedures were discussed at first reading last week; staff said the measure is not expected to have a significant immediate budget impact.
