County adopts resolution to challenge Contra Costa in annual employee 'Food Fight' to fight hunger

The Solano County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution asking county departments and employees to take part in the 2025 'Care Holiday Food Fight' and to challenge Contra Costa County in the annual fundraising competition.
Caitlin Sly, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, told the board that the food bank serves roughly 65,000 households and distributes the equivalent of about 2,700,000 meals each month across its two-county service area. "For every dollar that you all raise, we're able to provide enough food for two meals," Sly said, and she urged county participation and employee-led fundraising. County staff recapped past results — Solano county employees raised $58,883 in 2024 and the contest has generated more than $2.6 million combined since 2004 — and asked the board to adopt the resolution to formally challenge Contra Costa and kick off local activities starting in mid-November.
Supervisors approved the resolution by roll call vote 5-0 and invited county staff and food-bank representatives to return with results early next year.
