County museum reopens with three part-time hires; commissioners name liaison for tourism visit

County Clerk Tammi Cox told the Board that three part-time positions for the county museum were approved and the museum is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. Cox said she will present a key policy next week to better track county keys.
Commissioner Duane Morris, the designated liaison to the museum board, proposed including the museum board in the museum hiring committee; Commissioner Carla Grund asked that board appointments be reviewed. Commissioner Scott Mortimer read an email from Katie Vanderhoff of Choose Ottawa County noting that Kansas Tourism will send two groups of five content creators to Minneapolis in October and that five creators will specifically visit the Ottawa County museum. The Commission agreed Commissioner Morris will be the contact person for that outreach.
Cox also discussed exploring the museum becoming a 501(c)(3) and noted administrative follow-up on personnel and key-control procedures. The Commission moved to executive session to discuss museum personnel under the Non-Elected Personnel exception and returned with no recorded action.
