District explores school-based health center; planning grant active through June 2027

Superintendent Jim Helmen asked staff to report on work to plan a new school-based health center for Vernonia schools. Staff member Sherri Ford said her team is evaluating options within grant constraints and looking at a space inside a district building; she said the planning grant would run through June 2027 and that a subsequent operational grant could be sought and renewed for up to five years.
Ford told the board that current mental-health services will continue to be provided by CCMH and that the proposed center, as currently envisioned, would be available to students only and not to the general public. The planning committee will finalize which services to offer after space, grant rules and staffing are clarified. The board took no formal action at the meeting beyond receiving the report.
