Board approves Booster Club MOU for covered stadium; one abstention

The Vernonia School District Board of Directors voted to approve a Memorandum of Understanding with the Booster Club that clears the way for construction of a covered stadium for the district’s football field and track. The motion passed with an abstention from Lisa Curry; all other members present voted in favor.
Booster Club President Jason Busch outlined the grassroots effort, saying the group has worked since 2020 and “has been working towards a covered stadium for football field and track.” The Boosters presented a contract price of $671,575 for the build, reported $619,341 in their checking account and a guaranteed donation expected in August of about $25,000. RA Gray Construction’s A.J. Michaud recommended a wood-frame design and outlined a permitting and footing schedule that would allow work to begin after the 2026 football season and aim for readiness by the 2027 track season.
Board members framed the vote as an agreement that defines roles and responsibilities similar to a prior Boosters MOU used for a town skate park. Amy Cieloha moved to approve the stadium-build MOU; Tony Holmes seconded. Lisa Curry abstained. The board did not amend the MOU during the meeting and no additional district funding was approved as part of the motion.
The district’s next steps are administrative: once the MOU is executed the Booster Club’s contractor will proceed to the design phase and apply for permits, with construction scheduled for the October–February period following the fall season.
