The Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved Order No. 189-26 on July 14, 2026, delegating authority to the County Administrator or a designee to submit the county's FY2026 election under the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) provisions of Public Law 117-58 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. Joel Benton summarized that SRS 2026 provides eligible counties a choice between receiving traditional shares of National Forest and O&C Lands revenues or a State payment/guaranteed minimum for O&C lands; the county was awaiting additional information from the USFS needed to determine the most economical election.
Benton told the Board the election requires counties choosing the full county payment amount to allocate project funds between Title II and Title III and to return unspent Title III projected funds to the U.S. Treasury; the record notes the County needed delegated authority to meet the July 20, 2026 deadline. Commissioner Randy Sparacino moved to approve Order No. 189-26 and Commissioner Colleen Roberts seconded; Commissioners Sparacino, Roberts and Dyer voted aye and the motion passed.
