Durham County names Shirley McFadden as new Director of Internal Audit

Deputy Manager Jones introduced Shirley McFadden at the April 27 meeting as Durham Countys new Director of Internal Audit. Jones summarized McFaddens more than 20 years of internal audit, compliance and risk-management experience across city, county and state government, including roles in Guilford County and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
"I am honored to serve as the Director of Internal Audit for Durham County," McFadden said, adding that she looks forward to supporting managers, conducting performance audits, evaluating internal controls and advancing transparency and fiscal responsibility. Commissioners welcomed McFadden on the record and noted the importance of internal audit to strengthen departmental oversight.
McFadden said she had been in the job two weeks and praised county staff and managers; commissioners asked her to work collaboratively with the existing audit board and community representatives as she implements the countys audit program.
