Committee recommends adding fences, driveways and small fixes to 'do not require permit' list

Members said the village currently uses the 2018 code with exemptions and noted some items are handled differently elsewhere in the packet; the committee asked the development subcommittee to refine the list before sending a formal recommendation to the full council.
"Couple of things that I see that are in the building code that are not in our code are fences. They require it only if it's above 7 feet," Committee member (S7) said while outlining potential items to add. Other members proposed exempting gutters, like-for-like fixture swaps, and certain driveway work; the committee moved to recommend adding the agreed items to the "do not require a permit" list and directed staff to place the item on the next council agenda for formal action.
Staff and the inspector will review the proposed exemptions and prepare an updated list for the council packet. The committee noted the village must still enforce code material and safety standards even if permits are not required for these specified items.
