The chief reported, “So we only had, 1 person sign up for the police sergeant exam. He passed. I'm satisfied with that.” The chief and commissioners discussed that, because only one candidate signed up, the candidate need not complete additional phases and the department will proceed with promotion logistics. One commissioner added that timing for the promotion is a managerial decision: “We'll promote him sometime in the it's up to the city manager. And sometime in the next few days.”
The chief explained the department is seeking one lateral-entry sergeant to fill a retirement expected at the end of the month and described a draft advertisement for a lateral-entry recruitment process. The commission moved to release the lateral-entry advertisement and approved it on roll call.
Motions to certify the promotion list and to release the lateral-entry advertisement were both seconded and passed. The chief said he had no other business, and the meeting adjourned at about 09:08.
