The presenter emphasized the model's limitations: "It is not able to accurately predict, if saltwater intrusion can occur," an agency official said, noting the model is useful for identifying trend direction and relative risk. Panelists recommended establishing a chloride monitoring program at town wells so early signs of saltwater intrusion would be detected quickly. Residents asked whether large nearby withdrawals (for example at Purdue or large nurseries) are monitored; the presenter replied those larger permittees are monitored and sometimes required to install additional monitoring wells.
