The board approved renewal of the district's property and liability insurance with Selective Insurance after a presentation comparing quotes.
A presenter (speaker 6) summarized two proposals — from EMC (former insurer) and Selective (current insurer) — and cautioned the policies are not directly comparable because of differences in blanket property limits and what is covered. "There's a $3,000 difference in a total cost of these 2 policies," the presenter said, while noting a $3,600,000 difference in blanket coverage values between the quotes.
During the vote the Chair stated she would abstain due to an employment conflict: "I will be abstaining because one of the agencies is also my employer." After discussion, the motion to renew with Selective (premium quoted at $112,127.40) was made, seconded and passed 4–0 with one abstention.
