"I would really like to, at this point, hold off until our next meeting in August and talk a little bit more about that position once we see what our timber revenue is looking like," the superintendent said. Board members pressed for a timeline and one suggested posting within two weeks so the district can still conduct interviews and have coverage in place before the school year. The superintendent and board agreed to revisit the hiring item in August after timber revenue figures are available.
The board also discussed structural funding challenges for SPED: a board member noted that statewide funding often assumes 11% SPED prevalence while several local rural districts are running 17–19%, forcing districts to use the general fund to cover the excess cost. That funding gap and the timing of timber disbursements informed the decision to delay the formal posting.
