Resident warns of risk-management issue at Sampson court layout; council to review

Tom Dykes of Brookhaven Road told council the Sampson multipurpose court layout—currently configured as two pickleball courts alongside a full basketball court placed perpendicular to the pickleball courts—creates a "risk management issue," with basketballs potentially striking people playing pickleball. "So there's gonna be basketballs coming flying at people playing pickleball. That's a risk management issue, which would be an insurance issue for the borough," Dykes said.
Recreation staff and the engineer said the layout reflected the engineer's design and that the rec board had recommended two pickleball courts and a full basketball court; rec staff said they would re-evaluate and "take it into consideration." Council asked staff to review the layout and consider turning the basketball court orientation to reduce cross-play risk, and to report back with any recommended changes before permanent fixtures are installed.
