Avon council to submit three cultural and service programs to state under Neighborhood Assistance Act

The Avon Town Council voted June 4 to submit three community programs to the Connecticut Neighborhood Assistance Act for consideration by the Department of Revenue Services.
Council accepted recommendations to submit the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra for $64,460.00, Gifts of Love, Inc. for $9,737.23, and The Sam and Elizabeth Colt Industrial & Frontier Heritage Center for $50,000. Council and staff clarified that being listed as a sponsor does not obligate Avon to fund the awards and that organizations may list a participating municipality even if events occur outside Avon.
The Town Manager and staff noted the town’s role is to sponsor the submissions for the state program; if awards are granted, funding flows according to state program rules rather than through Avon’s general fund. Council voted unanimously to accept the submissions (motion by Mr. Weber, seconded by Mrs. Barthel).
