Committee to contest DOER measurement after Large Building Energy Reporting notice

The Energy Committee reported receiving a notice that buildings larger than 20,000 square feet are required to submit energy-use reports under the Department of Energy Resources' Large Building Energy Reporting (LBER) program. Committee members said Gretchen Licata is handling reporting for NES and PVRS but that there is disagreement about Town Hall’s square footage—MEI and the Master Plan list it at about 13,000 sq.ft., the committee’s quick calculation put it around 16,000 sq.ft., while DOER records list it as 28,000 sq.ft.
Given the discrepancy, the committee plans to suggest that Andrea contest DOER’s measurement before the June 30 reporting deadline. Members also expressed reluctance to take on the reporting workload themselves because of potential financial penalties for noncompliance and noted MEI might be able to streamline the process but that it could still exceed the committee’s capacity.
