Council and Planning & Zoning meet to align on duties, growth priorities

At a joint session on March 2, the City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission discussed roles, expectations and how to preserve Eagle’s character amid rapid growth. Mayor (speaker S2) opened the meeting noting P&Z’s role as “the first opportunity for the public to really get out and have comment in the public hearing portion of it.”
Longtime local official Steve (S5), who said he has served multiple terms as mayor and on P&Z, gave a detailed history of development decisions that shaped the city and credited staff and P&Z for improving projects before they reach council. “If you look at what comes out of here, you’ll get an idea on what people are testifying on and what adjustments we may have been interested in making as a result of that,” Steve said. Council members and commissioners emphasized a desire for clearer technical vetting by staff, regular joint meetings, and continued attention to downtown character and infrastructure needs.
