Solano students present Friday Night Live program, ask board to support prevention and civic projects

Johanna Novak Palmer, the county Friday Night Live coordinator, introduced student speakers and said April is FNL month; she turned the presentation over to students who explained FNL's four core components: chapters, opportunities, outreach, and skill development. "The 1st of these components are the chapters, which are composed of a group of committed young people and a minimum of 1 adult ally," one student explained.
Students described recent campaigns and events — a "paint it blue" child-abuse-awareness campaign, a cannabis prevention town hall scheduled for Apr. 15, student-led workshops on vaping and fentanyl, and a mentoring chapter pairing high school and middle-school students. The presenters said Solano FNL reaches many students countywide and participates in statewide networks, with county data independently analyzed by the state to measure program outcomes.
The presentation closed with an invitation for the board to continue supporting FNL programs and an offer for short in-meeting presentations by students to highlight local projects.
