County staff, trustees praise JCCS, Evergreen and Golden Hills in LCAP review

The Solano County Office of Education presented its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals and asked trustees for feedback on April programming and supports for students served in the JCCS, Evergreen Academy and Golden Hills programs.

Dr. Valerie Garrett, identified as a program director, described the LCAP as "the document that states how we're using our resources and activities to support our students," and she walked trustees through goals focused on instructional outcomes, transitional services, college and career readiness, and social‑emotional supports. Garrett highlighted the county’s work serving students in juvenile and community school settings and urged trustees to offer concrete suggestions for the plan.

Trustees and guests recommended several potential additions, including stronger transitional funding so students maintain gains after returning to neighborhood schools, more nutrition supports to ensure students are learning at full capacity, and increased opportunities for career shadowing and college tours. Trustee comments emphasized hands‑on supports, for example by partnering with community groups and local employers to expand career exposure.

Garrett closed by noting the programs already provide sustained outreach — "we actually stay in touch with students for a couple years" — and that the county will collect trustee Post‑it feedback to incorporate into final LCAP materials. She also referenced upcoming graduation events for program students scheduled in mid‑ to late‑May.
