Shabbona Township grant for bike-path match leaves administration unsettled

Frank told the committee he received an email from a state senator noting a $260,000 grant to Shabbona Township intended to cover the required local match for a previously awarded pathway project. "I called the township commissioner and I said, hey, you got a $260,000 grant. He says, we voted to get out of the pathway business," Frank said, describing the township 's reluctance to administer the project. Committee members also recalled an earlier pathway award in 2021 and said the village may be asked to administer or otherwise host the match funds if the township declines.
Members discussed the ownership and administration of a previous 20-foot easement and whether the village-written check that was reimbursed by the pathway committee affects current responsibilities. Frank said he planned to meet with pathway leadership and with the state senator, and he invited a board member to attend. The committee agreed to bring what they know to the board and to seek clarity from the pathway committee about administration and reimbursement arrangements.
