"The John Deere we have is is worn out. 25 years old," a committee member said, adding that public-works employees reported limited visibility with the current skid steer. Members instructed John and Jerry (public-works staff) to obtain vendor quotes from local dealers, examine trade-in or attachment options, and return to the board with a lease-versus-purchase cost comparison.
Committee members suggested leasing could spread costs and allow periodic replacement at the end of a term; the committee asked staff to present lease terms and usage estimates so the board can decide whether to lease, buy, or pursue alternative equipment with better operator visibility.
