Students push for more counseling access and expanded tutoring in LCAP feedback

District staff summarized input from student forums and a large survey (4,354 participants) showing consistent student priorities: greater access to counselors, more AP/dual enrollment and CTE pathways, real-world learning and increased recognition for student effort. “They want access to the counselors, like, almost on demand,” Dr. Casas said while summarizing the student feedback.
As an example of how priorities could be translated into services, Dr. Casas said the district could increase tutoring from a baseline example of 5,000 hours to 8,000–10,000 hours and suggested sites could shift discretionary funds to support the increase. Board members and staff discussed scheduling systems used at some sites and the possibility of a centralized sign-up tool to reduce variability in counselor availability.
