County backs SEI Broadband sale to Midco and supports state broadband program

Leslie Sauter, the county's economic development coordinator, asked the board to provide a letter of support for SEI Broadband's sale to Midco as part of documentation required for a Reconnect grant. Sauter said both companies are reliable partners and that Midco has committed to fulfill grant obligations and work with SEI staff to complete projects.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved a letter of support for the sale; they also approved a separate letter supporting the Minnesota Department of Broadband Development's planned administration of federal broadband funds through the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program. "This is part of the paperwork process that is needed because of the reconnect grant," Sauter said. The board took no additional commitments beyond the letters.
The actions signal county support for ongoing broadband projects and the state's role in managing federal broadband dollars; no county funding or contract changes were approved during the meeting.
