Board approves flexible Teacher on Special Assignment job description tied to literacy grant

Rick explained the change is in response to a state Literacy Specialist/Reading Coach grant awarded to two schools (Pioneer and Central) and will allow schools to hire blended coach/intervention specialists in literacy, math or other content areas.
"The intent of this specific grant is to actually do both, is to coach, teachers, but also, provide direct services," the presenter said, noting the general description gives schools future flexibility if new grants for other subjects become available. The board approved the job description 5-0. Staff emphasized the initial use will be grant-funded and that the job description will not itself create immediate new hires absent funding.
