Council approves three-payment plan to restore resident's water service after leak

Mr. Ramirez of 29272 Maple told the council he had a busted water pipe under his house that caused a large bill and asked for a sewer credit. Administrator Erin Braband said the town's leak-credit policy requires repairs by a licensed plumber and because Mr. Ramirez repaired the leak himself two months after notification, he was ineligible for an automatic credit; the Town had disconnected service for nonpayment.
After discussion, Commissioner Brian Schmidt moved to offer Mr. Ramirez a payment plan requiring three payments of $736.10 in addition to his regular monthly bill, with the first payment required to have water service turned back on. The plan must be paid off by June 1; if a payment is missed, water service will be disconnected again. The motion passed unanimously.
