Commissioners thank Board of Equalization after record number of appeals

Durham County commissioners publicly thanked the Board of Equalization and Review for handling a historically large number of property tax appeals during the 2025 revaluation.
Keyard Doyle of Tax Administration introduced the board and read members' names. "2025 received 10,300 appeals," he said, citing the workload facing the volunteer board during the revaluation. Commissioners described the board members as "unsung heroes" who devoted substantial time to hearing appeals and preserving fairness in local assessments.
Commissioners urged residents to recognize the board's role in the tax administration process and posed for a photo with members present in the chamber. The board will continue its work as needed during the revaluation cycle and members were publicly thanked for agreeing to continue serving.
