The Shabbona Village Board voted to accept a $12,500 rural vitality grant from Compeer Financial and referred the award to a committee to develop recommended uses for the funds. The chair asked that the board also send a thank-you note to the donor as part of the acceptance.
"The grant is for $12,500," the chair said when introducing the item, explaining that the money is a matching grant and that the village has six to nine months after award to expend and report on eligible activities. The board noted they must accept the award by the deadline and that if the funds are not used for the designated focus areas they will be returned at the end of the award period.
