Resident tells Shabbona board sewer reconnection was 'against code,' plans to seek compensation

Trustees questioned whether the lateral from the house to the street is a homeowner responsibility or a municipal one; several board members said typical practice is that homeowners maintain the private line from house to the street. The chair asked the resident to provide the sewer contractor's report and any legal paperwork; "we'll look into it," the chair said, and the board requested documentation from the resident and her insurer for follow-up.
The exchange included a dispute over whether the village cut part of the driveway during road work in 1990 and whether reconnection work performed during a 1999 sewer project was done to code; the resident said she will escalate the matter with insurers and legal counsel if the village does not remedy the problem.
