Charles said the planning department submitted a $500,000 EPA assessment grant that would fund adaptive‑reuse planning for a set of school properties flagged in a recent Mercer study. The grant, if awarded, would support planning and contamination assessments and may not become active until late 2027.
Staff also noted limited internal capacity to manage the Brownfield revolving loan fund and suggested partnering with the state to keep low‑interest loans available to nonprofits and local projects.
