Reecie (TCSO) explained staff were directed by the warranty provider to bring the vehicle to Power Ford for diagnosis; the dealership completed diagnostics but Ford corporate denied coverage, saying the vehicle had been driven in mud and that caused the boot tear.
Commissioner Kevin McCall said he pressed the dealership and found the corporate denial “questionable,” asking, “Why can't you drive a four-wheel-drive Expedition in mud?” McCall noted he had recommended purchasing Ford vehicles for county use and described the denial as inconsistent with expected use of a 4WD vehicle. Chairman Ryan Schwebach voted against approving payment of the diagnostic fee; Commissioners McCall and Jaramillo voted to pay the $104.93 charge.
Staff clarified the diagnostic fee arose because the purchase occurred without prior authorization and that the county had followed warranty instructions; the board approved payment to settle the outstanding charge and avoid collection actions.
