Torrance County ratifies two state road grants for Ayers and Breckenridge roads

Torrance County commissioners ratified two Transportation Project Fund grant agreements Nov. 12 for roads the county previously nominated. County Manager Jordan Barela said the agreements covered an approximately 4.5-mile segment of Alan Ayers Road and about 1.5 miles of Charlie Breckenridge Road; typical cost share is 95% state and 5% county and the local match had been budgeted.
Barela explained he executed the agreements before the meeting because the New Mexico Department of Transportation required return of executed agreements by Nov. 7 to guarantee funding. Commissioners confirmed the Road Superintendent recommends candidate roads but the Commission retains final authority to name roads in the resolution submitted to the State. Both TPF grant agreements were approved by roll-call vote.
With the ratifications the county preserves eligibility for state funding; staff will proceed with next steps in coordination with the Road Superintendent and DOT.
